What is the Best Way to Cut Frozen Meat?

Microwave

  • place the frozen meat in the center of the oven
  • use the defrost setting
  • don't set the time for too long, because you don’t want to cook the meat
  • Use a serrated knife  
  • When soft, place on cutting board 
  • carefully begin to slice by using a heavy-duty knife with a back and forth sawing motion.  
  • rotate the meat and continue the same method until you have worked your way through the meat

Heavy Duty Knife

  • Do not attempt to cut through a solidly frozen block of meat
  • Place the meat in a bowl of warm water or under running water for a brief period of time until the edges soften
  • Ensure meat is wrapped in cling film or in a sealed Ziploc bag  
  • When soft, place on cutting board 
  • Begins to slice by using a back and forth sawing motion.

Electric Knife

  • Do not attempt to cut through a solidly frozen block of meat
  • Place the meat in a bowl of warm water or under running water for a brief period of time until the edges soften
  • Ensure meat is wrapped in cling film or in a sealed Ziploc bag  
  • When soft, place on a cutting board 
  • Begin cutting - you should not need to “saw” as the electric knife will do all the work.
  • Turning the knife off each time, rotate the meat, and continue the same method until you have worked your way through the meat.
